Lightning Talks: Tools n Techniques Series Kick Off

  • 22 Jun 2017
  • 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Citrix, 120 S. West St., Raleigh, NC 27603

We’re kicking off our “Tools n Techniques” series with an evening of lightning talks! We’ll be exploring how UX practitioners in our community are using the different tools and techniques in our field. By working different projects and for different stakeholders, we have iterated the activities in our process. Everyone’s always curious to know how others are trying different tools or methods to streamline their process, communicate more effectively, and help understand our users better. This series will offer the opportunity for current practitioners to share various tools/techniques, which they find helpful.

Lightning talks are 5-minute long, fast-paced talks, where each presenter gets only 20 slides, and the slides automatically advance every 15 seconds. The brevity of these talks make them focused and informative. To celebrate this series, we’ll cover a broad range of UX topics with some really great speakers from our community:

• Basia Coulter (Caktus Group) – User story mapping
• TJ Chmielewski (Siteworx) – Running Sketch Sessions
• Leah Kaufman (Lenovo) – Locked Room test
• Emory Ball (PointSource) – Light Weight User Testing
• John Romano & Dwight McNight (PointSource) – Foundation + Axure + Sketch

“Tools and Techniques" Series
Starting in July, each month, we’ll have an event based around a theme (e.g., user research, Sketch plug-ins, etc.) and have speakers from the community give presentations on tools/techniques for that theme. If the opportunity presents itself, we’ll try to have an activity too. We really want this series to be tailored to our community, so we want to: hear your theme ideas, have you present (yes, I’m sure you have a tool/technique to share), and have your company host an event at the office! Feel free to reach out to us.

Location:
The Citrix Raleigh office is in the Warehouse District of Downtown Raleigh. We have ample free parking in the parking deck, which you can enter from S. West Street. This is a gated deck, so hit the call box button to bet let in. The security office will ask for your name. There’s also street parking available. When you arrive, enter in through the first floor (level CY on the elevator) and sign in at the security desk - they will have a roster of attendees for the event.

Agenda:

• 6:30-7:00 – Sign-in, grab food (pizza), networking
• 7:05-7:45 – Intro + lightning talk presenters
• 7:45-8:00 – Q&A
• 8:00-8:30 – More networking

RSVPing and the Waitlist:
RSVP on the exploreUX meetup page

The RSVP closes on noon the day of the event (so we can provide security with a list by the deadline). Please be kind to your fellow members and update your RSVP to “No” if you cannot attend the event. We know it’s easier to be less accountable for free events, but we really like to keep these events free to advocate for UX in the community. We're really trying to avoid imposing a fee or a 3-strikes policy to hold people accountable. If the event fills up, you will automatically be put on the waitlist. If someone changes their RSVP to “No” the earliest person on waitlist will be notified that their RSVP has been upgraded from “Waitlist” to “Yes”. Closer to the event, keep an eye out from a message from the organizer.

Sponsors:
• Citrix - venue
• Triangle UXPA - beverages and food, event co-host
• If your company or organization is interested in sponsoring this event or future ones, please contact Michelle.
