About the Talk

Approaching a job search can be a daunting task for any professional, but the UX world has a unique set of challenges. Our field is still relatively new, job titles and responsibilities are fuzzy, and there are varying understandings of what we can and should provide. There is no one clear path or set of experience that sets us up for success. Deliverables are often collaborative, covered by NDAs, and it can be hard to capture the many facets of UX expertise into a small set of documents. So how do we navigate the world of resume writing, portfolio creation, and interviewing to find a job that will be the best fit for the skills we currently have and allow us to grow into the practitioner we want to become?

About the Speakers

Amanda Stockwell is an experienced UX researcher and strategist whose clients include MaxPoint Interactive, Fidelity Investments, Staples, Adidas, 352 Media, andiContact. She provides user research, usability testing, and UX strategy services. She also works with one of the largest specialty UX talent agencies, Vitamin T/Aquent, interviewing UX talent, assessing their skill sets, and evaluating job descriptions and needs.  When not performing UX magic, Amanda can be found teaching fitness classes, drinking mojitos, and sunbathing with her spoiled pooch, Bromer.

Heather Young is the UX Community Manager at Vitamin T, a division of Aquent. With her B.A. in psychology from East Carolina University and over a decade of experience as an Interactive Designer, she is keenly positioned in understanding the digital space. Heather is passionate about user experience design and web standards. In a previous life, Heather designed for brands such as Gerber, Interpath, Energizer, ABB, Lockheed Martin and the National Institutes of Health. When she's not busy making matches in digital, you'll find her pumping iron at the gym or walking her 5 lb. papipoo, Biscuit.
